Michelle Carney is a veteran teacher with 20 years of professional experience as an educator. Michelle Carney joined the Douglas County Performance Learning Center in August of 2007.  She previously taught the At Promise Reading Program in Fulton County at Camp Creek Middle School.  She attended Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Secondary English Education.  She also graduated from the University of West Alabama where she obtained a Master's Degree in School Counseling.  She is known for her motto:  “I believe in you; now you just have to believe in yourself!”

Aside from being an educator and inspiration to her students, Michelle Carney is also a proud parent of two beautiful children.   Her oldest daughter, Jordyn Carney, is a freshman at Berry College in Rome, Ga and her youngest son, Miles Carney is in the 8th grade at Austin Middle School in Paulding County.  Michelle Carney instills the importance in education in her own children, stressing that they must always do their best because being “Educationally Lazy” is not acceptable.  Both of her children are in gifted/advanced classes, earning straight A’s or earning the highest score of four (4) for exceeding the standards.

During her time off from teaching, Michelle Carney enjoys singing karaoke, watching reality shows like Survivor and The Amazing Race, and collecting recipes to cook for her family.
